Born on December 30, 1928 in East Spencer, NC, she was raised by her parents, John Ralph Wingard, Sr. and Mae Earnhardt Wingard, on their family farm in Waxhaw, NC.
Ruth graduated from Concord High School and Lenoir Rhyne College. She moved to Atlanta after college where she worked as Director of Christian Education at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was also a talented seamstress and shared these talents generously with family, friends, and community.
Upon retirement, Ruth and Bill moved to 'downtown' Waxhaw where they helped raise their grandchildren with the same love and guidance they raised their own children. She was Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many other children and she loved each one.
