Sarah Ann Rasberry Pharr

Sarah Pharr Obituary

Sarah Ann Rasberry Pharr
Sarah Pharr, daughter of Samuel B. and Thelma F. Rasberry, passed away on July 23, 2010 in her residence at Sharon Towers with her family by her side. Born on November 2, 1929 in Durham, NC, she attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh before moving to Charlotte. At age 41, she entered the business world and retired at 60.
Sarah was an avid bird-watcher, reader and gardener and an accomplished bridge-player. She traveled extensively and particularly loved Alaska, Ireland and France. Of all the places she visited, Topsail Beach was her favorite. Time spent searching for shells, watching sunsets and relaxing with her family and friends was precious to her. Sarah's pets provided a great source of comfort, companionship and love. Because of her devotion to animals, several of her volunteer activities included local animal organizations. Sarah's incredible strength of character and fierce independence were admired by many. She was truly a steel magnolia.
She is dearly missed by her three grateful children Debbie Culpepper of Charlotte, Frank Pharr and wife Teresa of Hampstead and Ann Harrawood of Chapel Hill; her devoted brother John Rasberry, wife Betsy and family; her eight loving grandchildren Sarah Culpepper, Michael Culpepper, Cameron Rudisill and husband Jason, Brandie Pharr, Mary Pharr, Scott Pharr, Emily Harrawood, and Kathryn Harrawood; her precious great-grandchildren Aiden and Ava Rudisill; and her adoring cat Malachi.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, 2010, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Sharon Towers. Her life will be celebrated and memorialized on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her many friends, neighbors and caregivers for the thoughtful attention they extended to Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203; Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204; or Sharon Towers Assistance Fund, 5100 Sharon Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210.

My husband Don Farr was District Manager in the early 70's and worked with Sarah and we thought the world of her and we also knew the children. My husband passed away April 8, 2010 and since I didn't hear from Sarah at Xmas time I had planned to check on her. I wanted to let her know about Don. I am so sorry I didn't know till about 6 weeks after her death or I would have surely come to the service. Larry Womack sent me an email. All of you have my deepest sympathy for I know what it means to lose a loved one. We had lots of good memories of Sarah. God's Blessings be with each of you.

As District Manager for the company, I worked closely with Sarah from 1979-1989 in the Charlotte office of Life & Casualty/American General Life and Accident Insurance Company where Sarah worked for many years. She was a dedicated and loyal employee and took great pride in her work. She was a tremendous asset and friend to the other office employees, agents and customers. I'm sorry we didn't keep up our communication after I left the area. I'm sure she will be missed by many. Best wishes and condolences to the family.

Joe and Mary Carson join me in sending our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. Sara was quite a wonderful lady and will be remembered forever. Mom cherished her friendship and truly missed their afternoon "toddies" once she moved. May all the fun and happy memories you have get you through this time of grief. Love, Brent (Barnett) Libasci

I wish I had known Sarah sooner. I feel that we would have been good friends.

What an amazing experience to witness Ann, Debbie and Frank become woven closer through the process caring for their precious Mom.
Their tireless, constant, tender care of Sarah was true grace in action.
May the blessing of Sarah's love continue to blossom and guide their family forever.
I will miss Sarah's spitfire wit and oohh that smirking sideglance...,
I love you Sarah, you live on in my heart and the hearts of your family, friends and Malachi. Meg Bennett
