Sylvia Frances leClair Wainwright
Mrs. Wainwright, 76, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1929 in Belton, TX, Mrs. Wainwright was a daughter of the late Francis Joseph leClair and Pearle Mangham leClair. Following graduation from high school she furthered her education at UNC-Chapel Hill. She worked for a time as a librarian at Charlotte's East Branch; however, she is most remembered as a talented portrait artist, signing her work as 'Portraits by Francis.'
Mrs. Wainwright is survived by two daughters, Ellen Chavis and Jeannette Wainwright, both of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Frances Myers of Nebraska, Katherine Chavis and Andrew Chavis, both of Charlotte; and three siblings, Jeanne Bolte of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Francis J. leClair of Alamogordo, NM and Charlotte Kelso of Kinston, NC. Her husband, Freeman Jay Wainwright, Jr., preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Wainwright's family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, August 13 at Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews.
