Tony Eugene Wood
WADESBORO -- The Reverend Doctor Wood, 57, of Bolivia, NC, formerly of Rockingham, NC and Wadesboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 12, 2009 at his home.
There will be a service of worship celebrating his life at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Lilesville. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends tonight, Thursday, October 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.
There will also be a memorial service on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church in Bolivia.
Tony was born February 3, 1952 in Richmond County, NC a son of Eloise Parker Wood and the late Steele Vernon Wood. He was received his bachelor's degree from Wingate University in 1990, a Master's of Ministry from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies, Jacksonville, FL in 1993 and then a Doctorate of Ministry also from Southern Baptist School of Biblical Studies in Jacksonville, FL.
He was reared in Roberdel Baptist Church in Rockingham and his years of ministry included serving Marston Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Midland, Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Rockingham and currently serving Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church in Bolivia. Many lives have been touched through his service to the Lord.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Hildreth Wood of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and LeaHanna Wood of Valdosta, GA and Matthew and Melissa Wood of Rockingham; his grandchildren, Cheyenne, Jakob and Hunter Wood, all of Rockingham; his mother, Eloise Wood of Rockingham; his sister-in-law, Patricia Wood Newton and husband, James of Rockingham; and his nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Trenton Lewis Wood, and by a brother, Vernon Wood.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Children's Homes of NC, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338.
