Tonya, I am just now learning of your passing, and am heart broken. You were, hands-down, my favorite sprinter on our UK track team. We skinny white distance runners loved hanging with you beautiful sprinters especially you hurdlers You and Judy Thomas, RIP. We would all laugh and have so much fun on those track trips! I remember when I asked why all the black girls’ names ended in ‘a’ —Tonya, Shamika, Latisha—-you just guffawed and fired back, ‘Why do you all you white girls’ names end in ‘e’—-Missy, Holly, Mary!! Oh how we laughed! I remember how much I adored you, and how I love your fears competitiveness. You were beautiful to watch as you raced! You found my journal that I left in the van late night when we got home from a track meet—-it was filled with deeply personal and painful things I was going through at the time And you never gossiped about it to anyone else. Such integrity. Such kindness. What a beautiful life you made for yourself My dad, Buck, and stepmom, Linda, also adored you, and would’ve been so very very proud of you and your family for making this world a better place. I’m so sorry and so sad we did not stay in touch with each other. Rest in sweet peace, Tonya. The world is a better place because you were in it. ❤

I am saddened to find about the passing of Tonya Carroll. As parents of children running track for the Charlotte Flight, she would often come down to the railing to watch Jarrett run, as I would Brittany (sp). She was a gentle soul and my heart and prayers go out to her family.

I am saddened to hear about Tonyas passing. We were in the Track Team in the 80s. Not only was she a great athlete; she was a great person. I remember us being at UT and she was going to race against the Tennessee Tiger Bells. I told one of Tonya couldnt wait to race them. Then told Tonya and she laughed and said, see you causing trouble. I remember that was the type of fun we had.

I had an opportunity to meet this sweet soul and I instantly loved her. Despite her medical challenges she came to Chicago and we had a ball. Although are meeting was short, I felt that I knew her for a very long time. That's her loving and accepting spirit!!! You will be missed

To the Carroll and Lowe family,
So many hearts are saddened by the loss of y(our) loved one. Tonya initials (TLC) spoke her life. From the time I met her in 3rd grade and we finding out our fathers were friends, she's been the same tender, loving and caring Tonya, I met at Garfield. I last saw her some years back and what was she doing, "praying". She was having lunch with Trish at LaAzteca and I didn't realize who they were, as there backs were opposite of me. I only heard the prayer. Upon noticing my buddies from way back, I simply joined hands with them and it was like we never lost contact. Tonya, you have been a gem from day 1. Rest well, rest peaceful and rest easy!
