Virginia Currie Obituary

PINEHURST -- Virginia Davis "Ginny" Currie, age 79, died Thursday, June 26, 2003 at Tara Plantation in Carthage after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born April 29, 1924 to the late John Duncan and Annie Irene Wilkes Currie, she was a 1942 graduate of Pinehurst High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas Hayward Currie, her sister, Marjorie Yearby, and her beloved dog, Whiskers.
Better known as Ginny by friends and family, her distinctive laugh, friendly smile, and carefree loving spirit will long be remembered. Ginny was especially devoted to her sons, but was willing to help anyone in need. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
For 37 years, she delivered the Charlotte Observer in the Sandhills area, several times receiving the Carrier of the Month award from the state of North Carolina. She was a long time member of Community Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her five sons, Charles Hayward Currie of Pinehurst, NC, Ronald Thomas Currie of Currie, NC, Bryon Duncan Currie of Pinehurst, Gregory Elbert Currie of Pinehurst, and Patrick Alexander Currie of Lumberton, NC; her brother, Eldon Currie of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel and Jennifer.
The family will receive friends at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Southern Pines. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Community Presbyterian Church, Pinehurst, with Rev. Mark Carver officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1449, Pinehurst, NC 28370.
