Charlotte, North Carolina - William Eric Esterhay of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on May 13, of cardiovascular events, at age 73.His wife of 54 years, Amy (Hunter) Esterhay, and their son, Will Esterhay, Jr.,survive him, as do his siblings Robert J. Esterhay, of Prospect, Kentucky; Carl Esterhay, of Winchester, Virginia; and Freida Guillette, of Northfield, Massachusetts.
Born in Painesville, Ohio, Eric attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. He excelled in football and basketball, but his love was track and field. He was a best -in-state discus thrower and still holds his college's discus record at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn. After moving to Charlotte, Eric participated in numerous triathlons and spent many hours at the YMCA working out and helping others with technique. Eric also had a great interest in wine and hosted many wine tastings, as well as travelling to vineyards across the country.
An economics and political science major at Wesleyan, Eric worked in sales, marketing and business development at Arlon, Wausau, and Rexham. He also had been a teacher and a coach early in his career. A loving father,a good friend, and a funny guy, Eric will long be remembered and much missed by all whom he befriended over the decades. Private services have been held and a life celebration will be set for a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness(NAMI).
