William Gathings Obituary

William Monroe Gathings
WADESBORO -- Mr. William Monroe Gathings, 82, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Deep Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Robertson and his brother, Rev. Wayne Gathings officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends Saturday night from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Monroe was born in Anson County, NC April 16, 1925, a son of the late William Thomas and Beulah Swink Gathings. He was a retired mail carrier, was a farmer and known for his peach orchard and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Faye Blalock Gathings of the home; his children, Billy (Jilla) Gathings, Patty (Anthony) Ratliff, Peggy(Billy) Hooks, Danny Gathings and Tammy Timmons all of Wadesboro; his brothers and sisters, Kay (George) Short of Morven, Bob (Joyce) Gathings of Norwood, Rev. Wayne (Frances) Gathings and Kermit (Barbara) Gathings both of Wadesboro, Thomas (Lynda) Gathings of Burlington and Sarah Morton of Richfield; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and special family friends, Linda and Russell Lindsey, Steve, Pam, Jennifer and John Tarlton, Danny, Terri "Punk" and Danielle Wright and Elaine Baker Burr. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Joe (Ruby) Gathings, William T. Gathings, Jr., Haywood Gathings and Frances Gathings.
Memorials may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church, % Elaine Baker Burr, 252 Chewning Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
