William McLeod Obituary

William Leslie McLeod, Jr. "Mans" WEDDINGTON - William Leslie ("Mans") McLeod, Jr., of Weddington, NC, died on December 15, 2012, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 26, 1958, in Charlotte, NC, to Dr. William Leslie McLeod and Dr. Jonnie Horn McLeod. Mans McLeod, like his nickname, was a man of true integrity. His dedication and love for his family, friends, and faith was always at the forefront of his daily life. Mans was the husband, father, son, son-in-law, baby brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend, co-worker, banker, volunteer, soccer dad, basketball and soccer team manager you could hope and dream for. Mans was a dedicated banker at Wells Fargo, where he invested more than thirty years of service. He was also an active member of St. John's Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mans married Carole Moore in 1984 and they have two children, Anna Katherine (Greensboro, NC) and William Leslie ("Will") McLeod, III. He had three older sisters who watched over him and loved him dearly. He also had one sister, Martha McLeod, who preceded him in death. Mans is survived by his three loving sisters, Laura Sorrell (M.C.), Melissa Millette (Ken), Katherine McLeod (Pope Langstaff), mother-in-law Hilda Moore (Greensboro, NC), brother-in-law Phil Moore (Mary Mac), and his many nieces and nephews, Carter Sorrell (Meredith), John Sorrell (Samantha), Emily Millette, Allen Millette, Jim Langstaff, Laura Langstaff, John Langstaff, Molly Moore, Phillip Moore (Katie), Jaclyn Moore and Parker Moore. Mans is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Leslie McLeod and Dr. Jonnie McLeod, his sister, Martha McLeod, his father-in-law, Jack Moore, and brother-in-law Doug Moore. A memorial service and celebration of Mans' life will be held on Tuesday, December 18th, at St. John's Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, at 2pm. A reception will follow. Overflow parking is available at Presbyterian Hospital parking garage at the corner of 5th Street and Hawthorne Lane. The McLeod Family would like to give special thanks to: Drs. Henry and Alan Friedman, Dr. Annick Desjardins, and staff of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, and Dr. Daniel Haggstrom and staff of Mecklenburg Medical Group. Memorials may be sent to: St. John's Baptist Church Youth Habitat for Humanity Mission Project, 300 Hawthorne Lane Charlotte, NC, 28204; Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710, or a charity of the donor's choice. I knew Mans primarily through our shared time starting out at First Union, then Wachovia and most recently Wells Fargo... Though growing up in Charlotte, I think I've always known the McLeods. I will think of him always as a person of upmost integrity and with a beautiful, contagious smile. I was so saddened to learn of his passing, and wish you God's peace, comfort and strength in the coming days ahead.

Growing up with Mans at St. John's, I'll always remember him as the happy, fun-loving kid and great friend that he was. The McLeod's were always such constant role models for all of us growing up in the community, and the youth gatherings at Skye Farm will always be part of my joyful memories. At every touch point in our lives, I was more convinced that Mans was one of the best people I've known in my life. My prayers are with all of the family along with my gratitude for how my life has been enriched by sharing time together.

I am so very sorry to hear about Mans. I grew up down the street from him on Biltmore Dr and the boys always let me play in the basketball games and manhunts! His Mom was such a sweet friend to my Mom and so helpful when she died in Dec.1976. I will always cherish those childhood memories of that wonderful street! Thinking of all of Mans' family as I truly know how hard it is to say goodbye to a loved one especially at this time of year.

To all of the McLeod clan,
I am so sorry to hear of Mans' passing. He was such a wonderful mixture of Dr Jonnie and Dr Leslie. He left here way too early to join them, but what a great time they are having now. I pray that you will find comfort knowing that he is with his mom & dad again. Know that I will always hold the entire McLeod family close to my heart.

It was a pleasure working with Mans at WF. Even though he was going through treatment he attended my retirement gathering and it was so good seeing him. He was an easy going guy who was always smiling, I hope with the love and support of family and friends it will help ease your loss.

Mans was a fellow First Union, Wachovia and Wells Fargo team mate. He was a person of integrity and always wore a beautiful smile. He was always quick to tell me about the family and how proud he was of his kids. He will certainly be missed, but he made the most of his short time here on earth. At this time of loss, keeping your family in our prayers.
