William Van Smith Obituary
Bill married Elizabeth "Betsy" Blythe Holland, in 1961. He worked for Pilot Freight Carriers and First Union National Bank before purchasing Carolina Tire and Retreading Co. with Jim Hughes in Asheville, where he and Betsy lived for over 60 years. He later opened Heavenly Ham in Charlotte with his son, Brian.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy of Asheville; sons, Van (Mary Bryan) Smith of Charlotte and Brian Smith of Miramar FL; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne and William.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Ave., Asheville. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, Samaritan's Purse, or Carolina Breast Friends.
