Gladys Amos Obituary

Gladys Mingus Amos, 103, of Centre, Alabama, formerly of Murphy, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, in an Alabama care facility.
Gladys was a native of Cherokee County, where she had spent her entire life until moving to Alabama in 1998 after the death of her husband. She was a loving homemaker to her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was a devoted and active member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church, where she was involved with the Women's Missionary Union and volunteered with various committees within the church.
Gladys loved to garden, cook, can and provide for family and the community.
She was the daughter of the late Sanford and Paralee Coleman Mingus and the wife of the late Lee Amos, who died January 27, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Amos; four sisters, Sally, Mamie, Fannie and Celia; and a brother, John.
Surviving are a daughter, Glenda Massey of Snellville, Georgia; and three grandchildren, Shane Massey and wife Brandy of Loganville, Georgia, Ben Massey of Snellville, Georgia; and Angie Hawkins of Leicester, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation for the exceptional care, kindness and friendship, and the special friends who gather to give her surprise birthday parties.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment will be in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Mingus, Alfred Dockery, Shane and Tyler Massey, Jerry Wilson and Giles Scroggs. Jerry Palmer will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, March 8, and from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon, March 9, at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.
