Donald Flax Obituary

Flax, Donald passed away peacefully in his home in San Mateo, CA on October 16, 2009 at age 88. Born on March 17, 1921 in Bayonne, NJ to Louis and Lena Flax, Don enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in the signal corps with Gen. Bradley's HQ in Europe. After the war, he moved to Chicago and entered the art materials and drafting supplies business, founding the Flax Company and Regent Products Company with his brother Alvin. Don retired after 44 years in business and lived in Arizona and California. Don was an avid golfer and art collector. Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Serene, and their children, Robert of Menlo Park, CA, and Carole Segall and Patrice Flax, both of Ann Arbor, MI. Don is also survived by his sister, Hilda Beskin, of Downers Grove. Don was a loving grandfather to Brad and Lauren Segall, Sarah Flax and Alison Hainline, and a great father in-law to Susan Flax and Dr. John Segall.
