I was fortunate to have been in the same law class at the University of Virginia with Bert, as well as the same class at EHS. He worked hard and excelled at everything he did, yet he was humble, caring and considerate of others. A real roll model. He will be missed.

As Bert´s career wound down, we worked together extensively. He was one the best men I have ever known. May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him...

Bert recruited me to join Sidley when I was a law student at UVA. I was the Editor in Chief of the Law Review and we invited him to be our guest speaker at our banquet because he had been the Editor in Chief 50 years earlier. What a gentle, kind and thoughtful man, with a twinkle in his eye. A credit to his profession and to humanity.
