Ann Marie Richter, (nee Postle) passed away January 8, 2016. Beloved companion of 26 years to Daniel Gedroic; cherished mother of Ronald (Kathy), Robert (Dina), Renee (George), proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, dear cousin to Jean McCown and Donald McCown, and beloved friend to June, Helene, Connie, and many others.
The daughter of Orville Haden Postle and Sarah Ellen Truax, Ann was born in Champaign, Illinois. Ann's father, Orville, died before her birth. Her mother then decided to pursue nursing as a career, and Ann lived with her maternal grandmother while her mother attended nursing school. Ann later lived with her Aunt Dorothy (Truax) and Uncle Edwin McCown while her mother recovered from tuberculosis. At 13, Ann and her mother moved to Chicago where she lived through the remainder of her life.
Ann married Ronald Richter, Sr. in March of 1961. For the next several decades they shared their lives and raised their three children, Ronald Jr., Robert and Renee. As the children grew and matured into their own lives, Ann pursued work as a legal secretary. She and Ronald ended their marriage but remained in contact as friends through the end of her life.
In the last quarter century of her life, Ann enjoyed the companionship of the man whom she called her significant other, Daniel Gedroic. They laughed together, and enjoyed many of the wonderful things of life. Whenever Ann was asked how she was doing, the answer was always; Daniel is taking care of me.
Ann began her studies at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago in the 1980's where she was certified as a Hatha Yoga teacher, and also learned meditation, tarot, and astrology. Ann taught both Hatha yoga and tarot. And, she helped to guide many people through her tarot readings and interpretations.
Ann enjoyed painting, studying, and in her later years, learning archery. She was planning to enroll in the Temple of Kriya Yoga Seminary program in the spring of 2016, saying that she wished to continue her studies so that she would be able to help others even more wisely.
