Arthur Roy Berenson, born Jan. 18 1928 in Chicago IL, passed peacefully March 23 2007 at St Joseph Hospital. “Artie Roy” (son of Robert and Ruth) grew up on the west side of Chicago and attended Marshall H.S. An avid music lover, Mr. Berenson played the trumpet while serving in the US Army and later went on to serve in the US Navy Reserves. He earned his degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology while studying under Mies van der Rohe. He is credited with helping in the creation of the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park. Artie Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Aida, nee Aronoff; his four children, Matthew (Sarah Edmonds) Ackerman, Polly Jo (Steve) Menaker, nee Ackerman, Ruthie S. Berenson, Rebecca, nee Berenson, (Isaac) Kirstein and his cherished grandchildren, Noah Menaker, Simon Menaker, Melissa Zamojcin, Sophie Zamojcin, Matthew Kirstein, Jasmine Ackerman, and Jacob Kirstein. He will be missed terribly by friends and family alike, especially those at his “home away from home”, The Council for the Jewish Elderly/Adult Day Services. Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 25 at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W. Montrose, Norridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Arthur's name to The Council for the Jewish Elderly/Adult Day Services, Attn: Judy or Bill, 1075 West Howard, Evanston, IL 60202 (847-492-1400).
