Today I was wondering about Carl. The last time I spoke with him, he was working in the Financial Industry in Chicago. Carl & I graduated from Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas together in 1968. I lost touch with Carl & am in shock right now to have just read his obituary. My Prayers go out to Carl & his entire family. Carl was a very good friend of mine during our High School days...he was always carrying a ton of books with him between classes; He was a straight "A" student...so reading that Carl earned his PhD doesn't surprise me one bit. I will make sure that our RHS classmates know about Carl's passing. He had many friends at RHS. God Bless you Carl...You will always be in my thoughts & Prayers. Blessings. Bob

I never cease to remember my friend and graduate school classmate, and fellow Texan, Carl. I regret that my move to Europe at a time of great need in his life meant that it was harder for us to stay in touch. I miss his humor and his caring. May the Lord keep you in Hs care, my friend. -Guy

I was remembering Carl the other day, and his gift for inhabiting, with humor but quite seriously, the thought world and context of the historical figures he studied and on whom he was an authority, above all Philip Melanchthon. I do miss him so very much as classmate, as fellow scholar and as a wonderful friend. Dear Carl, PAX ET BONVM! Guy

Carl was my first friend at Marquette University when I began graduate studies there in 1977. He felt it his obligation and honor to welcome a fellow native Texan and to introduce me and my family to so many students and faculty who would be lasting friends. Carl and I shared a study carrel in the Graduate section of the MU Memorial Library and an office in the Theology Department. Our families spent many happy times together in Milwaukee and we tried to stay in touch after the Maxceys moved on to Loyola. We lost touch after I moved to Germany in 1989, just when Carl, Ginny and the girls were hitting a rough patch. I believe I let a wonderful friend down by not maintaining that bond that was so imporant to him, and I bitterly regret that now. Carl was full of life, with wonderful and sometimes wicked sense of humor, and he was a scholar and an historical theologian of the first order who deeply cared about the Church and the things of faith. The news of Carl's passing came from another Marquette classmate and I have felt a void ever since.

I am so glad to read that Carl had the blessing of seeing his beloved girls married and knowing the grandchildren they bore him. In include Carl in my prayers at Mass every Lord's Day. I will miss him always. I wish his family every happiness as I share in their fond remembrance of this good and great man who surmounted many challenges to provide for his family.
