Carl Flentge Schalk

Carl Flentge Schalk, age 91, of Melrose Park; beloved husband of the late Noël Donata Schalk; loving father of Jan Westrick, Rebecca (Edward) Nagel and Timothy (the Rev. Ingrid) Schalk; cherished grandfather of Brian and Peter (Hannah) Westrick, Samuel Nagel and Aaron (Tasha) Schalk; dear brother of the late Jane (the late Junius) Fischer; fond uncle of many; devoted son of the late Erich and Elsie Schalk. Dr. Schalk was an elementary school teacher and director of music at Zion Lutheran Church and School in Wausau, WI, from 1952 to 1958, a former director of music for the radio broadcast of The Lutheran Hour in St. Louis, MO from 1958 to 1965. Most recently he was a professor of church music at Concordia Teachers College, now Concordia University Chicago, until his retirement in 1993. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Center for Church Music at Concordia University Chicago and the Bach Cantata Vespers at Grace Lutheran Church are appreciated.
