Carl Urist Obituary

Carl H. Urist, Jr., 76, of New York City, died on November 13th. Born in Chicago, he was the devoted son of Elsie (née Hammerman) and Carl H. Urist. Literate in five languages, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School.

Carl was a volunteer in the Vista program in San Antonio. During his 31 years with The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation in New York City, he rose to Managing Director and Deputy General Counsel and later served as General Counsel at Omgeo LLC, DTC's affiliate. Highly respected as a "lawyer's lawyer," Carl analyzed and resolved complex legal issues and is fondly remembered by the many attorneys he mentored.

An avid runner and swimmer, Carl completed several New York City marathons and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. A longtime member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, he regularly volunteered for night shifts at its men's Homeless Shelter.

Carl is survived by his sister, Carol Urist, of Huntington Beach, CA, and his memory is a blessing to many. Donations in his memory may be made to Congregation Rodeph Sholom's Homeless Shelter.
