Scudder, Charles Vern
Charles "Chuck" Vern Scudder was born July 25, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan, and died October 24, 2008 at 4:45 p.m. at the Little Rock V.A. hospital after battling a long illness.
Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as a jet mechanic in Moses Lake, Washington and Abilene, Texas. He later became a house painter, beauty salon owner, and hair product distributor before he retired to De Queen, Ark. in 1992, where he was a member of the First Baptists Church.
Chuck was the rock that grounded his family and the glue that held them together. He was a great father and an even more wonderful grandfather that will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Madell Knight-Scudder and mother-in-law Edith Mae Bryant-Knight of De Queen Ark.; sister-in-law and her husband, Reverends Rita and Larry Lewis of Rattan, Ok; brother-in-law Jack L. Knight of Modesto, CA; sister Florence West and husband Charles of Atlanta, Tx; Sister Elsie Buttice of Walla Walla, Washington; son and U.S. Army Sergeant Charles Allen Scudder and wife Dianna of Katy, Tx; son Michael Patrick Van Zuiden and wife Karen of Lake Zurich, IL; son Wayne Dale of Cordova, IL; son Everett Eugene Van Zuiden II and wife Imelda of Chula Vista, CA; son Ronald Lynn Howard of San Diego, CA; daughter Susan Fa y Howard-Eldridge and husband David of Balch Springs, Tx; 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many much loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held November 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 1535 Collin Raye Drive, De Queen, Arkansas, 71832. The officiating pastor will be Charles Herbert.
