Corene McCollum

Corene McCollum, age 96 of Evanston, IL died on Jan. 5, 2021. Beloved wife to the late Ralph McCollum. Dear daughter to the late Harry and Laura nee Kruse Woodworth. Kind sister to the late Marion Lois Smith. Fond aunt to Hedric "Pete" (Gretchen) Rhodes, Laurie (Anthony) Rhodes Bielejeski, Marcia (Gary) McCollum Puryear, Marilyn (the late T. Bernard) McCollum Slattery, William (Diane Pyshos) McCollum. Corene was a longtime resident of Evanston IL where she lived with her husband in a lovely home. Their son, Richard "Sandy" died in Evanston in 1983. Corene moved to the Presbyterian Home in Evanston in 2006 where she lived for 15 years. In earlier days she spent summer weekends at the McCollum family home in the Shorewood community in Saugatuck, MI. The now 118 year old house accommodated the extended family of 13 with 2 bathrooms and a small kitchen. The large front porch and the wide sandy beach were happy places to congregate. At the Presbyterian Home Corene's care givers referred to her as "Angel" because of her pleasant demeanor and beautiful face. She will be missed by the staff and her relatives.
