Daniel John Maloney, son of Daniel E. Maloney and Loreta Hautman, was born in Cincinnati Ohio on February 17, 1936. He died tragically on March 10, 2022 at the age of 86, the victim of a house fire in the home he lived in for 35 years. He had two siblings who preceded him in death; his older brother Shirl, son of his dad's first marriage and his younger sister Mary (Luken). He is survived by his wife, Barbara Soricelli, his sons Michael (Stephanie), Marc (Ashley) and four grandchildren: Claire Ann (5), Grayson (2), Camden (6 months) and Sienna (20 months), his nieces Peggy Maloney, Rebecca and Sarah Luken, and nephews Matt and David Luken. Marrying late in life at the age of 50, Dan treasured his sons and grandchildren with deep gratitude. Dan entered the Maryknoll Seminary at the age of 14 and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1960. He then studied at Catholic University in Washington, DC receiving a master's in psychology which he used in service to the Maryknoll Society, evaluating young men applying to enter the seminary. He taught ethics at the Maryknoll junior seminary in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, before being assigned to Chile, South America in 1965 to 1980. He returned to the center at Maryknoll, N. Y., where he worked in the Personnel department. After much discernment Dan made the decision to leave the priesthood, while continuing to embrace Maryknoll's global vision and concerns for the poor instilled in him over many years. He remained active in peace and justice issues throughout his lifetime. Dan eventually took up residence in Chicago, where he renewed his acquaintance with Barbara, who had also served in Chile as a Maryknoll sister. They eventually married in 1986. Dan worked as a human resources manager/Director, putting his excellent people skills to work. He was loved by all who had the privilege to be in his gentle presence. He returned this love unconditionally. A man without sharp edges, measured and even tempered, accepting and nonjudgmental always. He will be remembered by the way he lived: a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend par excellence. A Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Nicholas Church, 806 Ridge Avenue, Evanston, Illinois on Saturday May 21, 2022. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow. Mass will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend. Info:
