David Bruce

Bruce, David 87, of Northfield, died peacefully on March 30, 2013. David was born in Syracuse, New York in 1925. He later moved to Winnetka. He graduated from New Trier High School in 1943. After high school, David was drafted into the Army Air Corps. His tour of duty included flying the Burma Hump in India for which he received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for having flowen over one hundred missions. After finishing his tour of duty, David completed his studies at Northwestern University. David is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor, and his daughters Bonnie Bernard (Tim), Lane Hop (Karl), and Whitney, as well as his grandchildren, Jordan and Danny Watt and Brook and Lindsay Toland. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. David participated in high school and college football. In addition, he loved the game of golf during his adult years. Other activities included bible study and men's fellowship at church. David was active in various positions of responsibility at St. James the Less Church in Northfield for a number of years. Later he served as an usher and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston. David was a man of integrity and faith. He will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston on Friday, April 12th at 2:30pm.
