Gale, Ryan, Sean, Danny and Katie:
I was stunned and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Dave. I wish I could have been in town for the Service, and to be there with you.
I've been thinking about Dave since I heard of his passing earlier in the week, wondering what I could say here to help you and your family at this time. No words ever came to mind, but a lot of good memories of Dave from our years at Purdue came flooding back; from being freshmen in Cary Quad, where Dave and I first met, to living in the house off campus.
I remembered Dave's wit and that grin of his… And if it wasn't for Dave's help I would not have passed Freshman Engineering Chemistry!!
Well, I guess I don't need words here; the memories we keep in our hearts speak volumes and provide comfort.
Gale; Dave, You and your family will be in my thoughts, prayers and always in my heart. My one regret is that I kept saying that we need to get together the next time I was in town…
Dave is a Great guy and will be truly missed.
May God watch over you, and be with you at this difficult time. And may His Love comfort you always.

Although we never met, we are cousins (Sharon is Eva Sandler Brown's granddaughter) and are close with many of the cousins and second cousins. I was so sadden by the news. I just heard tonight. Please know that had I heard earlier I would have been at the service to pay my respects to a very dear family. Gale my prayers are coming your way for strength and courage. Kids my prayers are coming your way for understanding and love. With this you will be able to get through this difficult time together. We were families together running through each others backyards, playing baseball, walking to school, and skating in the park. Dave was a part of our wonderful childhood together. We have just learned of his passing and are deeply saddened. He will always be remembered in the fondest way by the McGrath family. Emerson wrote:

Gallagher Family....I went to school with Dave and he always was a great guy...Then we met again when our kids played basketball against each other in grade school and he was the same Dave...always smiling....Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. First and foremost, please know how shocked and saddened we were to hear about Dave. I am hoping you will remember our family from St. Joes Basketball back when Ryan played with our son, Tim Hibbler, and Gerald coached them. We have always kept those days special and have never forgotten the kindness and friendship your family showed us. Dave's smile was so contagious and he lit up the whole room with his presence. His life was certainly shortened but you and your children are proof of his wonderful being. Please know we are praying for your family and asking for strength to guide you through each day. Heaven has just gained another smiling face....the smile that touched everyone on earth that knew him.

Gale and all the Gallagher family, The world has lost a wonderfully sincere, bright, witty, and kind man (as you well know). Dave was a good friend of mine from the days of Infant Jesus of Prague and Marian Catholic. He was the type of person who shared his whole being with his smile and warmth.
