I just read about Mr. Ziech's death in the LTHS alumni newsletter that arrived today. I was a student in his biology class the first year he taught at LT. Most kids take biology sophomore year but I waited till junior year at north campus and I am so glad I did. I dreaded taking science classes but he changed that. He was such a good teacher, and I had great lab partners whom I will never forget---all in all it made even dissecting frogs fun! I have been a teacher now myself for over 30 years, and when I teach 5th grade science I still find myself making reference to things I learned in Mr. Ziech's class. All the teachers at LT had a great influence on who I am today, and Mr. Ziech was no exception. (LTHS Class of 1971)

JoAnn, we just learned last night (Oct. 3) of Dave's passing and we feel your loss. It has been a long time since we saw you and Dave - - many years since a funeral or Ziech family reunion. We know you have the support of your daughters and their families to get you all through this very troubling time and we wish you well.

To the Ziech Family,
Mr. Ziech was my LT summer school Field Biology teacher. I was dreading taking regular biology when he introduced my to the summer course. What a blast! I learned so much in fact I recently threw out my insect collection from that class. It really taught me ecological appreciation for insects; before that they were just "bugs". And fossil hunting in Morris, IL was so cool. Mr. Ziech was right on with a sense of humor that wasn't always so obvious. What an inspiring teacher he was. He will be sorely missed. My prayers are with you. His memory will always live on in my life.

Jo Ann and family. Please accept my deepest sympathy to you all. I was shocked to learn of Dave's passing. It seems like just yesterday that he mentored me to take over his AP Biology program at L.T. He was a kind, generous, and gracious human being.

Dear Jo Ann,
Our deepest sympathies to you, Laura, Lynne and their families. Dave was so very close to us; it's hard to believe he's not with us. We have many wonderful memories of Dave, most of which bring a smile. We cherished Dave's friendship, and will fondly remember him for the rest of our lives.

Dave was such a laid back individual who had a very clever sense of humor. you could never tell if he was joking or serious because he never changed his facial expressions. He will be missed but not forgotten.
My deepest sympathy to JoAnn and family.

I'll always remember Dave as Doug's "Big Brother" as Doug and I went through high school and later college. His wooden boat and sense of humor are thoughts that have stayed with me. He will be missed.

Jo Ann, Laura, Lynne and families,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I remember David the most in my younger years when I would go over to Aunt Viv and Uncle Carl's house. I'll never forget how David and Uncle Carl made a "study area" in our basement on Cowles Avenue. It was awesome.
I also remember that you and David went to Aspen on your honeymoon. I wasn't so sure of what to think about that at the time.....I thought that most newlyweds went to warmer destinations I guess. But once that I became involved in a ski club I realized that your honeymoon must have been beautiful and fun!
Peace and love to you all. Cousin Robin
