Diane Rath Obituary

Rath, Diane 58, renowned artist, loving mother, inspiration to us all. Diane discovered her life's passion at a young age while drawing a picture of her mother. Ten years later she moved to Chicago with little more than a dilapidated Volkswagen, a loyal dog and an undeniable spirit. With time, she became a powerful influence not only with the paintbrush but also with the power of positive thinking. Her art has spread across the country and more importantly, so have her inspirational views on how to think, live and love. She is survived by her children Tyler, Lucy and Anna Rath, as well as her dear friend and former husband Jim, all of Chicago and Lake Forest, her brother Daryl (Frances) Rockey of Des Moines, her sister Lynn Davenport of Minneapolis, her aunt Connie Kate of Gulfport, MS and uncle Elbert Rockey of Princeton, MO, multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation. Memorial visitation 5-8pm, Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Avenue, Lake Forest, IL 60045 a memorial service is to follow at a later date. Diane was my first serious art teacher. Though I was very young, she treated me like I was an adult. I'm now a working artist and every time I draw I think of something she taught me. My best to her family and friends.
