Dominick Cavallo Obituary

Dominick ''Toots'' Cavallo, 86, WWII Veteran, of Olympia Fields, formerly of Chicago Heights, beloved husband for over 52 years of the late Battistina ''Betty'' Cavallo, nee Ciochetti; devoted father of Robert (late Mary), James (Joanne), John (Rebecca) and Nancy (Kenneth) Bawolek; proud grandfather of Jessica, Nicholas, Anna, Tina, Katie, Elisabeth and Nancy Cavallo; loving son of the late Dominic and Margaret Cavallo; brother of the late John (late Rebecca), late Thomas (late Theresa) and late Charles (Mary) Cavallo; brother-in-law of Diana (Frank) Samargin and Michael (Jeanette) Ciochetti; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dom was born in Collinsville, IL in 1919 and moved to the Roseland area of Chicago in 1929. In 1957 he moved to Chicago Heights and moved to The Park in Olympia Fields in 2001. Dom worked for Ingersoll Products from 1946 to 1981, starting out as a timekeeper and retiring as the company's Assistant Secretary/Treasurer & Works Accountant. He joined the Ingersoll Credit Union in 1948 as President. In 1950 he became the Treasurer/Manager, a position he held until he retired. Dominick was drafted into the Army on Jan. 30, 1942. He was a Supply Sergeant in the Medical Training Battalion prior to joining the Air Corps. Dom was assigned to the 844th Squadron, 489th Bomb Group as a navigator of a B-24. From July 28, 1944 to Nov. 30, 1944 he flew 19 missions over Europe and took part in Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. He received the Air Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and the Euopean Theatre of Operations Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1945 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Dominick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights, he was a member of the Thursday Seniors at the Chicago Heights Park District and the president for over 20 years. He was a member of the Bloom Township Senior Advisory Board and the Bloom Township Sounding Board. He was a member of the Piemontese Nel Mondo, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 2825 Chicago Heights, a member of the American Legion Post 0131 Chicago Heights and a life member of the Masons of Illinois Palace Lodge No. 765 Lansing-Third Degree. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (US Rt. 30, 3 Blks E. of Western Ave.), Chicago Heights, on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. Masonic Services 7:30 p.m. Body will lie in state Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Services 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 10th and Thomas St., Chicago Heights. Burial will be private. 708-481-9230.

My grandpa really meant alot to me since I was born. He used to play video game with me downstairs of his old house. He also took my sister and I to McDonalds alot with our belated Nonni as well. When I was sick, he used to play Uno the card game with me all the time and then play pool with me as well. My sister and I are going to be missing him alot because he was our last grandpa to die...
