He graduated from University of Illinois medical school in 1961 and served as a physician for over 40 years in the field of Allergy and Asthma. His patients greatly appreciated his devotion and caring for them. He was the founding physician of Aaronson Asthma and Allergy and partnered with his father Dr. Abe L. Aaronson (z"l). Dear Aaronson family,
I have the best memories of times spent with generations of Aaronsons. My dad, Murph Rubenstein, was uncle and great uncle to you all. We celebrated every occasion as family. I´m so sorry to hear of Donald´s passing. My sincere condolences.

Dear Aaronson Family,

We have lost a giant in our field of Allergy-Immunology and Medicine.

Don gave me my first job after my Allergy Fellowship in the summer of 1972 before my US Air Force service watching over the very busy Aaronson Allergy practice. It was a great experience for a young allergist.

Throughout Don´s career it was hard to keep up with him-he was always doing something new- Law, Public Health and Medical administration and all the for the benefit of our field and our patients.

He is and will be sorely missed.

Dearest Aaronson family:

As one of Dr Aaronson's students, I was always in awe of his passion and dedication to science and love for Judiasim. Dr Don was proud to wear both on his sleeves, a true leader in the Allergy field and a devoted soul as a proud Jewish American. He displayed love for all Jews and non-Jews, cared to make a stand for his patients and his fellow Allergists at the AAAAI/ACAAAI and AFI alike. He was kind to junior doctors like myself and helped support many of us in our early years in the field in many ways.

Dr Aaronson was a tremendous individual who loved to be with people and people loved more to be with him.

He will be ever so sadly missed.

May his memory be a blessing for all of us as a role model to strive for within medicine and Judaism.

Strange, I was just thinking about Don the other day. He's the first name in my "contacts" cell phone list and I was remembering back when we both were active at Lutheran General. I was on the Medical Staff cabinet when Don was president. I worked with Don during his phase of Quality Improvement at the hospital as well. Later, when I became Advocate's Chief Medical Information Officer and Don had gone back to get his nth degree (this one the MPH) we worked together on a number of projects to improve care via the EMR. Don was a mentor and if I learned anything , it was how to get things down in calm and thoughtful way. I know he'd be happy to know my wife and I visited Israel in 2018 after I hadn't been there for 50 years. While he won't be here physically, he will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Aaronson provided helpful comments as a member of the CMSS oversight group administering the data analysis from the NAIC closed malpractice claims study in the mid-1970s. He also appreciated my later need in the early 1980s to base medical appropriateness analyses of allergy procedures espoused by nontraditional allergy practitioners on the reasonableness of the articles their proponents provided from the medical literature. Thus, Dr. Aaronson was insightful and fair in his professional conduct. May God, be "a help in trouble, very near" to Dr. Aaronson's family and dear friends even "though the earth reels" for them because of Dr. Aaronson's death [Psalm 46:2-3, Tanakh].
