I just found out Dr. Wickman passed away today. She was my doctor for over 20 years. I started with her in the South Holland, IL practice along with Dr. Goodman and others. When I moved to Naperville 12 years ago, I was glad to know I didn't have to replace her. She was always so personable and caring through each of my 4 pregnancies and annual visits. I even elected to have her induce my labor 2 weeks early with my last child in 2001, just because it was important to me to have her there for the delivery. I knew it was my last baby and she was planning to be gone for vacation during the last two weeks of December. I was fortunate to have my last exam done by her when she first returned to Female Healthcare in 2008 but she left shortly after returning. Even then, her spirits were they same as always. You never would have known all she was going through. She gave the same care and service as always. I feel like I have lost a family member. There should be more like her in the field of medicine. My prayers are with her family, for I know she will be missed but never forgotten.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies on behalf of the Willowbrook High School, Class of 1971.

As attested to by the heartfelt words of others on this site, Doris exhibited the very same qualities during her high school years: great humor, grace and caring, humility, insight and maturity (well beyond her years) and intelligence.

“Class”...in action and words...was exemplified by Doris in every endeavor she engaged in, and with everyone she touched

I was saddened to hear Dr. Wickman had passed away. I was a patient of her's for over 15 years. She was kind and compassionate and helped me through two high risk pregnancies. She never made you feel rushed or that any question you had was silly. We could use more doctors like her. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. She will be deeply missed.

I just found out today of the passing of Dori Wickman MD. I have many fond memories of your mom as a fellow Ingalls OB GYN physician. Your mom was just the greatest...friendly and genuine. My children are about the same age and just as I always heard about you, she always asked about my mine. We'd share antiquing stories, gardening tips and talk about just everything and anything. Her patients loved her, the nurses respected her and I just enjoyed knowing her. She was always willing to help and ,as a new physician way back then, I really appreciated that. There's just been a sinking feeling in my stomach all day today from finding out about her struggle with cancer. She will be missed by all.If there's a heaven, I'm sure she's there playing with the babies and the dogs.Mary Vanko MD Munster ,Indiana formerly of Homewood, Illinois

I was fortunate to have worked with Dr. Wickman. Though it was for a short time, she will forever have a place in my heart. She was a wonderful Dr., mother, and friend. She loved her family dearly and cared for every patient with respect, compassion, and a sense of humor. I only wish she had the chance to meet my daughter and that I told her how special she was at a difficult time in my life. My deepest sympathy to her family. She will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Wickman's passing. I was a patient of Dr. Wickman's for nearly 20 years. She was THE BEST doctor I have ever had. So compassionate and truly caring. She was with me every step of the way when I was pregnant and also when I had some bad news. I just truly loved her and I have yet to find a doctor nearly as good! To the entire Wickman family, my deepest condolences.

I am heart broken to find out that Dr. Wickman lost her battle against cancer. Reading all of the previous entries enforced my belief that she was intelligent and caring. To me personally she was a younger cousin that I ocassionally babysat. She also brought great pride and happiness to my mother (Aunt Evelyn) especially when she was included in Dr. Wickman's Medical School graduation.
To her family - my love and prayers will always be with you.

I have been a patient of Dr. Wickmans's way back when she worked in South Holland and how lucky I was that when she moved to Glen Ellyn I was moving to Lisle. She saw me through some very difficult pregnancies, all which ended up in losses. She never gave up on me even when things got really bad. She was so compassionate and caring through some really hard times. She was so easy to talk to and always gave me the time, even when the waiting room was packed. I remember bringing in a picture of our daughter, which we ended up adopting, and you could see how truly happy she was for me. My heart goes out to her family, as I know someone this amazing is going to be missed deeply. She is an angel now, with many little angels to keep her busy. She was truly a wonderful person. I was blessed to have had her as my doctor for so many years. To all who knew her.... there will be a huge hole in their hearts.

Sorry that we were out of town and couldn't attend the wake. I worked with Dr. Wickman for many years and recommended her to many of my friends. Dr. Wickman was a wonderful doctor with the best bed side manner. I had been going to her since 2004. Although I usually had to wait longer for appointments with her than some of the other doctors in the office, it always was worth the wait. She was a friend, not just a doctor. I remember her telling me how badly she wanted grandchildren and how much she was looking forward to them. I rejoiced over the news of her first granddaughter and was sad to learn the she didn't get to meet the baby due in November. Dr. Wickman delivered my second daughter and that c-section went so much better than my first c-section. I was hoping Dr. Wickman would be around for all my babies' deliveries. I'm pregnant again and miss Dr. Wickman a lot. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Dr. Wickman's family.

To Dr. Wickman's family,
What a wonderful person Dr. Wickman was. She delivered my first daughter 13 years ago, & I remember funny memories of my pregnancy; like when I had Dr. Wickman paged at 3:00 in the morning, to ask her if it was o.k. if I took a ROLAIDS. She was soooo sweet about it. She answered, "YES, AMY, YOU CAN TAKE A ROLAIDS." And, she used to talk about HER Amy, since of course that is my name too. I had no idea until I saw Dr. Morrison on Friday that her illness had become so very dire. I cried in the office, bawled all the way home - & then again when I told my family members & again showed my oldest the picture of Dr. Wickman holding her when she was born. I only wish that I could have expressed to Dr. Wickman how wonderful she was before this happened. We as patients of hers are all very very blessed to have known her. So young she is......it seems so unfair.

Dr. Wickman delivered my beautiful daughther 7 years ago. When my son was born 2 years ago, she wasn't on duty when I had to have an emergency c-section, but she showed up to see me at 11pm that night-she was an angel!
When I went to my visits before my son was born, she always had news about her grandchild that was about to be born. She was so excited about that baby and she was such a proud mother. She always had something sweet to say about her kids. I admired her, she was such a class act. My condolences to her husband, children, family and friends. My you find some comfort in knowing that she made a difference in so many lives and brought so many wonderful babies into this world.

To Dr. Wickman's Children,
I know you know you were loved by your mother, but I just wanted you to know how very proud she was of each of you. I have never met you, yet know much about you, because of your mother's deep pride and love for each of you. Dr. Wickman was my doctor through two pregnancies and delivered both babies--whenever I was with her she always gave me updates on you all and couldn't help but share the wonderful things you were accomplishing in life. You will be in my prayers as you navigate the unchartered waters ahead.
Blessings,

My deepest and heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Wickman's family, friends and colleagues. I will always have a special place in my heart for her as I was very fortunate to have her as my OB when I delivered my second child. Though the outcome of that birth was the worst possible when delivering a child she was the most caring, nurturing and wonderful doctor my husband and I could have ever asked for. Her compassion and care for us during this extremely difficult situation goes beyond words. She was an incredible doctor and she will be greatly missed.

Dear Tim,
I was very surprised to read about Dorie's death. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I had a great memory about her to share from many years back when we had a fundraiser for our agency on Lake Michigan on the Marlin. After a great evening we disembarked by the aquarium. One of the passengers got his foot wrenched between the boat and the dock. The captain asked if there was a doctor on board. Dorie took a look at the man's foot and said, "yeah, it looks broken. If he was having a baby I could help him. I think he needs to go to the ER at Northwestern." I loved her droll sense of humor.

Please know that I'm thinking of you and your family as you grieve this great loss.

I was so blessed to have known Dr. Wickman over the years. We shared many laughs and stories about the kids, the dogs, and work. I learned a lot from her and credit her with me deciding to get a second white dog... she said to make sure you keep all the fur the same color on your furniture! That truely was Dr. Wickman, honest and caring through and through. She's been in my thoughts and prayers for the last 2 years and will remain in them forever.

Dr, Wickman was my doctor for many years. She always had a smile and a story. She made time for my questions and concerns and never once made me think that she had an agenda to move quickly on to the next patient. Forgive me if I am out of line for saying this, but it always amused me- that given the nature of her work-after the exam she would always remove her glove and shake my hand. I still smile to think of that. She was a very warm human being and had a sense of humor and a kind heart. My condolences to her family. Hold tight in your heart our hope of heaven. Sincerely

My mother and I will miss Dr. Wickman's upbeat personality and tender care. My mother is 91 and has a severe hearing loss. Dr. Wickman performed a hysterectomy on my mother several years ago and subsequently fitted her with a pessary. We had pleasant visits about every four months until Dr. Wickman had to go on medical leave. She practiced in the kindest and gentlest of ways, meeting the best definition of a physician. We will continue to miss her, and we hope that her beloved pups are comforting her family just as they guarded over her.
