Douglas H. Volkert, 44, Castalia, OH, died Saturday, at his residence. Born in Cook County, IL, on July 7, 1964. Employed by Jevic Transportation and Arctic Express as a truck driver. Survived by wife, Colleen Volkert, nee Gittinger; son, Shawn Volkert, Illinois; step-daughters, Kelsey Richards and Erin Richards, both at home; and brothers, Roy Volkert, W. Chicago, IL, and Dave (Debbie) Volkert, Chatham, IL.; preceded in death by parents, Earl and Hildred (Pyles) Volkert; and a brother, Earl Volkert Jr. Friends may gather on Friday, December 19, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. in St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Rd., Milan, OH. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky, OH is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be made at www.toftfh.com.
