Elaine and I met because she called in response to a flyer that I sent out to Lexington Nursing Home attempting to collect WWII stories for an oral history project that I was completing. From our first meeting, we became instant friends. She was the sweetest lady. I always looked forward to our visits. I found her humility, kindness, gentle heart and strong faith awe-inspiring. Her work with the brothers (Alexian Brothers) is something that should be celebrated. I know that it was hard for Elaine to be in a nursing home. I am so sorry that I was not able to see Elaine one last time in Palos Hills. She wanted to go see the Little Sisters of the Poor in Arlington Heights. I had planned to take her there. I wish that I would have taken her to see them one last time. Elaine's deep Catholic faith always made me aspire to deepen my own faith. I am a better person for having known Elaine. I wish that I could properly articulate what Elaine Stapleton meant to me. I treasured the friendship that she and I had. Elaine was like a grand-mother to me. She was unequivocally a special person. She always called my Mom, “Dori.” If I ever have a daughter, I plan to call her this name and I will think of Elaine when I do. One of the best surprises from my wedding day was when I came home from getting my hair done at the salon and there sat Elaine on my parent's couch. My Mom surprised me and brought Elaine over, so that she could come to my wedding. I will be forever grateful that Elaine was there to share in our special day. I will genuinely miss her and I am unmistakably deeply saddened by this loss. Seeing Elaine's picture that I have up in my office will always make me smile and thinking of her will tug on the strings of my heart. I will look at her picture and remember not only a great lady, but the friend of a lifetime. May she rest in peace. ( my e-mail: [email protected] )

To the family of Elaine,
I am a former coworker of your mother at Campbell Sales Co. She was a good friend of mine while there. I will never forget her kindnesses, her humour, and love of people.
The last time I ran into her was at Valli Produce in Arlington Heights many years ago. It also happens that I was thinking of her lately and going to try to contact her for a get together lunch.
May she rest in peace. She was very proud of her three girls.
