February 3, 1921 - April 29, 2017 Eleanor Coon Briggs, a life-long resident of Glencoe, Illinois, passed away peacefully at age 96 in Pueblo, Colorado, with members of her family present. Eleanor was born in Evanston, Illinois, the only daughter of Owen L. Coon and Alice Wright Coon. She grew up in Evanston and Glencoe; moved away from the Chicago area in the early1950s; and returned to Glencoe with her family in June 1963 when her husband William became Vice-President of General Finance Corporation, the automobile finance company of which her father had been Chairman. Eleanor was a founding member of the Owen L. Coon Foundation, which was established by her father in 1946, and a strong supporter of both Northwestern University and Evanston Hospital over the years. Eleanor is survived by her children Dr. Mary Ellen Segall, Richard O. Briggs, Jean Briggs Latka and Theresa Marie Fessenden; seven grand-children; and three great-grand-children. A memorial service for Eleanor will be held on Sunday June 11, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Elisabeth's Church in Glencoe.
