I just heard of Frank's passing. I met Frank was I was a young boy attending, then working, at Leo Boys Club where he was a counselor. I will always remember that smile, voice and infectious enthusiasm. One of my last encounters with Frank was when I was a Senior at Leo and we crossed the field after the game to shake hands. That was almost 52 years ago and still remember it like it was yesterday:) To the Minik Family, please accept my condolences and I hope you can find comfort in the fact that he left an indelible impression on a young boy many many years ago such that he remembers it like yesterday. RIP Frank and Go Irish!!!

I taught with Frank at St. Laurence in the early 70´s. We used to play Basketball before school either one on one or 3 on 3 against teachers who graduated from the other school in Indiana( St. Joe) . The competition was excessive. Frank was so energetic. He was a Great guy. My condolences. God Bess him

Frank Minik was a special person to many people. Like so many other youths in Vandergrift, Pa. he was a role model, mentor, and friend. Quite simply he was our hero. May Mr. Minik rest in peace, and peace be with his family. The man was special.

I met Frank 6 years ago when I was looking to purchase some property.
Frank and I became friends from that day on he was a honest stand up businessman. I will miss Frank and the conversations we had over the past years he was always there to discuss things I had interest in.
Wish there were more people like Frank RIP my friend.

Sincere condolences to all the Minik family. Coach Minik was a dedicated leader who helped you bring out the best in yourself. He turned St. Laurence football into a winning program and perennial playoff contender in just a few short years. After the season, he worked tirelessly for many players (including me) to get scholarships to participate in intercollegiate sports. He truly was one of the most inspirational people I have ever met and would not be where I am without his influence and example. He taught us that through discipline, hard work and a “never give up” attitude, you could achieve great things and overcome virtually all obstacles. Rest In Peace Coach. Carpe Diem

My condolences to Matt, Peggy and the entire Minik family. Although we were only a year apart at Notre Dame, I was so fortunate to meet Frank only in recent years and come to know such a wonderful man. He and Matt were quite a team and not only fun but such a privilege to work with. It was quite clear to me that Frank was a man of great integrity, professionalism and above all, a man who really loved his family. God bless you Frank, we will miss you!

Farewell Frank may you find eternal peace in the hands of our Lord ... for it is in dying that we are born again. You traveled far from our ragamuffin football field down by the foundry and Greek gardens in Vandergrift. My deepest condolences to Eleanor, Rich and your vast family. God bless all.

Sincere condolences to the family. Coach Minik was a tremendous influence on my life in terms of the values of hard work and fair play that he preached. He recognized my sincere desire to play football and allowed me to work my way onto the team even though I did not have any formal experience. His sociology class was always interesting, and he made sure to also teach us real life lessons as well. When Coach took over the team we were the most losing team in the Catholic League due to the newness of the school, but he instantly transformed us into winners, both as individuals and as a team. He was tough as nails, but always fair, never abusive. RIP Coach, and thank you for injecting your proud spirit of Notre Dame into the Vikings - you will always be remembered.

My deepest condolences to the entire Frank Minik Family. Although I was not a member of the St. Laurence H.S. football team while at school, nor had Mr. Minik as a teacher, I always remembered him following my graduation in 1968. High school is a formative time in a young person's life, and even though I did not have a personal student-coach/teacher relationship with Coach Minik, he always stood out in my mind as a person who was a strong role model for all of St. Laurence. I know he was a devoted Viking and as a result, I always remembered him. During my 45+ years serving as a teacher, school counselor, principal, and school superintendent, people like Coach Minik helped guide me in my many decisions affecting students, parents, and staff I worked with. I know that is the case for all who had the good fortune to know him. Rest in Peace, Coach Minik. Know you made a big difference in the lives of many throughout your wonderful life. (Mark Pienkos, StL Class of '68)

I had the pleasure playing handball with Frank: he was a fun, fair and fierce competitor.
He was such a tenacious player. A few years ago he entered the 3-Wall National Championships.
He entered in his Singles division which was held on Labor Day weekend in Toledo.
He intended to enter just to participate and then be free to return to Chicago on Saturday to take care of a business obligation that he had planned. So on his Thursday match in the Nationals he upset the #1 player and then on Friday he knocked off another top-seeded player but politely declined to play in the Saturday final in order to fulfill a previous business commitment back in Chicago. Frank was a man of his word.
He was admired and respected by his peers.

My sincere condolences to Frank´s family for their loss. Frank Minik was a man of his word. If you worked hard for him and the team , he´d word hard for you to secure you a college scholarship. In 1969 he came through with over 20 full or partial scholarships for our team. I always respected him.
Here is a picture of Frank when many of us were together at St. Laurence for Mike Mikas induction into the HOF
