I was also an Iroquois student of Mr. Amundsen - 71/72. I'm sorry I did not hear of his passing until many years after the fact. He was my favorite teacher. He made math fun. He was kind, helpful and easy to talk to. Yes, the world lost a good one. So sorry this is so late, but my condolences.

I was sad to read of Mr. Amundsen's passing. I was a student of his at Iroquois 70/71 and also have positive memories of his class. I still recall the exercise of being given a list of names, colored houses, animals, etc. and we had to determine who lived where and with what animal, per the hints given. Yes, he made learning fun.
I discovered more about him in the obituary, and see the world lost more than a great teacher. My condolences to his family and friends.

I was also a student of Mr. Amundsen's and like Julie Ware-Lindley stated, he made math fun even if you didn't like it.
I hadn't seen him since we graduated from Iroquois in 1976, until a small group of us put together our 30 year grade school reunion last September. He was one of the many teachers that were in attendance and I know that those who had him as a teacher were glad that he was able to make it.
My prayers and thoughts are with your family.

Marilyn and family,
George loved his family, his friends and his students--his demeanor and sensitivity was ever present. As a football teammate of his at North Park University in '61,'62 and '63 he showed the qualities of a gentleman while being on of the fiercest competitors. As a "Heavy Lifter" in the Football Boosters, he continued to unselfishly give of his time, support and encouragement.
His optimism midst very challenging medical issues is a precious legacy.
May the Peace of God comfort you during this time of grieving with the knowledge that George is now free of pain and in the comfort of Almighty God.

We met in 1955, he was my BEST friend for almost 20 years. We were together almost every day at his home on Campbell or mine on E. Grant Dr. We played baseball on the same team at times, once coached by his Dad, a great and humorus man. He vacationed with me and my family in Rhinelander, Wisc. Ami was the BEST. I spoke to him last about 7 weeks ago on the phone. You would never know what he was going through from the tone of his voice and his amazing spirt. Marilyn, family and Jan my heart hurts but the memories I will always have are wonderful. Ami loved life and I for one loved his frienship, .

I also was a former student at Iroquois Jr. High, as were several of my family members. George is the one teacher I will always remember because to me, and many former students, he was more than a teacher, he was a friend to all. I remember seeing George at a "reunion" of sorts, around the time the school went charter, and even tho over 20 years had passed he still knew who I was; and it was so much fun to reminisce!
George was an amazing man for everything he had accomplished and been through! I am truly honored to have known him and been a small part of his wonderful life!
My prayers go out to all the Amundsen Family.

I was a student at Iroquois Junior High from 1969/70 and 1970/71. "Mr. Amundsen" was one of several teachers there I remember very fondly. He made school fun and was most popular. I was touched to see his obituary. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Dear Marilyn and the kids,
I am so sorry to hear of George's passing. He was a kind, sympathetic and understanding man. As you already know, he touched the lives of all those with whom he came into contact. . .students, colleagues, parents and all others. May you find comfort in knowing that he has finally arrived home and awaits the day when you will all be reunited in heaven.

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Am's many friends and his family, Marilyn, the children and of course, Jan. Am was such a courageous individual and touched the lives of so many. I realize it is a blessing that he is at peace now with the Lord yet it is very difficult to grasp the passing of someone so beloved by so many! I will always rembmer him as a "gentle giant".

I was a student of Mr. Amundsen's at Iroquois. I wasn't particularly good at Math, but he made math seem interesting. He was a great teacher, always trying to make math fun. He will be missed.
