Worked at Nedlog back in the mid 60s and was fortunate to have a wonderful boss in Grant. May god bless him and his family.

I just learned today that Grant passed away. I am very saddened and my heart goes out to the Golden Family.
What a wonderful human being Grant Golden was! He was an exceptionally warm, kind, and friendly man. Grant was unbelievably generous with his time, imparting his vast knowledge of tennis to those he coached at Junior Davis Cup practices at the Lincoln Park Tennis Club and to Juniors at the Mid-Town Tennis Club in Chicago. I was fortunate to have been coached by Grant at Junior Davis Cup and had the opportunity to play with him many times at the Skokie Racquet Club, at Lincoln Park, and at Mid-Town. I have always been grateful to Grant for having helped me with my tennis and for having been a super role model as a player and for his sportsmanship. Grant Golden was a true mensch and he honored his mother and father by the exemplary life that he lived.
Sincerely,
Jim Erickson

I wanted to pass on my thoughts of Grant. I was on the Northwestern tennis team and had the pleasure of receiving Grant's coaching in the summer on the Illinois Junior Davis Cup team. Grant devoted a significant amount of time to our team that practiced out of the Lincoln Park Tennis Club. Grant was a great coach as well as a great player and it was so nice of him to spend his time helping our team. I know I speak for the other members of the team when I say that we all enjoyed his coaching and just being around him. He was a quality guy. I have great memories of being on the team and learning from Grant. He was one of a kind, class in every way. He will be missed.

Grant was a wonderful friend, tennis player and family man. I served with him at Camp Zama in Japan in 1955 and saw first hand his wonderful personality, talent, and big smile that welcomed everyone. He had a special relationship with General Maxwell Taylor, commander in chief of the Armed Forces at Camp Zama. This allowed Grant to set up a tennis program for military personnel serving in Japan. He was truly a special guy who is going to be missed by a lot of people. On one occasion I came to his house in Evanston and met his parents and still remember the warm welcome.

Grant will be missed at our Monday morning discussion group. His wit and insight made for great give and take.

Glenn, and family. On behalf of the Perlmans, Jim, Bruce and Annette (mom), we extend our condolences to you and your family. I notified Chrissy Carvell Washburn and Irv Stenn and we all agreed that your dad, and the times we all had, and he contributed to substantially, at Lincoln Park Tennis Club, were special that will linger in our memories forever. Your dad did good things for tennis for all the right reasons and unselfishly. These are hard qualities to find these days. He will be missed.
