Guenther M. "Bud" Philipp Jr., passed away on July 12, 2021. He was born on April 15, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Guenther M. and Florence Philipp (Doyle) who preceded him in death. Guenther married his loving wife, Ruth Ann (Gundersen) Philipp in June of 1956 in Chicago, IL.

Bud is survived by Ruth Ann and his children, Jacqueline (Rodney) Barndollar, Michael (Dina) Philipp and Daniel (Alicia) Philipp; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lawrence), Joseph, Benjamin (Roshi), Rebecca (Justin), Megan, Hannah, Mitchell, and Norah.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Philipp; and brother, John Philipp.

Bud grew up in Chicago, and after attending St. Mary of the Lake seminary in Mundelein, Illinois, Bud went on to graduate cum laude from Loyola University School of Law where he was member of the Law Review. Bud retired from the Schiff Hardin Law firm after over 50 years of practice with the firm.

Bud was a fixture at the Union League Club of Chicago where he enjoyed the handball competition and the camaraderie for decades. He loved flying his Bonanza around the country and the Bahamas, was an avid sailor and was particularly well known in Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida and Michigan City, Indiana for playing taps at sunset for the appreciative fellow beach lovers. He was a lifelong learner and always interested in educating himself on the topic of the day.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Bud was a pillar at Dunescape. I met him in the Fall 1994 when I started to do the bookkeeping for the Condo Assoc/Ph1. I have many fond memories of a man who lived his life to the fullest with his lovely bride, Ruth Ann.
Fondly, Carol Westbrook

Bud will be missed by all who knew him. He was an exemplary neighbor and friend! Sunsets haven’t been as spectacular minus his taps. We all appreciate everything you did for the Dunescape community.
Rest In Peace, my friend.
