Herbert "Herbie" Schneider, 88. Beloved husband of the late Renee; devoted father of Jay (Sherri) Schneider, Beth Schneider, and Dean (fiancee Isabella Rafinska) Schneider; cherished grandfather of Zach (Leanna), Aimee, Josh, and the late Jonathan Schneider; proud great-grandfather of Oliver; dear brother of the late Marshall (late Audrey) and the late Sheldon (Bess) Schneider; loving uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Herbie previously owned "The Leading Man" on State St and was a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He was an avid golfer, and could be found at various country clubs, both in Chicagoland and Palm Springs. He will be deeply missed. Visitation Friday, Sept. 30, 9 AM until time of service at 10 AM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. My late mother, Esther Gooder Butchin, found your father's obituary in the paper and told me that they used to affectionately call your father "the baby." I believe your father was a cousin to my mother. My mother's mother, Pauline Smith Gooder, had 2 sisters. One was Ruchel, which I guess would be Rachel in English. I can't remember the other one's name. One moved to Whittier, California. How am I doing?

My mother had told me many years ago that a cousin of hers owned The Leading Man, and I often wanted to go into your father's store to tell him who I was. However, I was very young, early 20s, just out of college, and I wasn't sure it was appropriate. I regret that now.

I am sorry for your loss. I just lost my mom last June. It's rough, isn't it? We will grieve together side by side, arm in arm, as we continue on with our lives somehow without our parents. May his memory be a blessing.
