James Cannon Obituary

James F. Cannon, 95, of Westmont passed away peacefully at his home with family at his bedside on April 12, 2022. He was born in Carbondale, the fourth of ten children. He attended Marion Township High School. From there, he went to Coyne Electrical School and subsequently into the Navy, stationed in the South China Sea at the end of World War II.

Thanks to the GI Bill, he attended SIU Carbondale, where he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree. During his career, he worked in the government, non-profit, and private sectors. He most enjoyed his position as a Commercial and Residential Real Estate Broker for Coldwell Banker. He was an avid golfer and a member of Rotary and later Kiwanis of Glen Ellyn, serving as its president. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be missed by all.

He was the proud father of Jennifer (David) and Kimberly. He is also survived by brothers Richard (Rita) and Kenneth (JoNell) and 21 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Iva Mae (Chitty) and Hershel Cannon and siblings June Boswick, Joe, Raymond, Gerald, George, Beverly Smithson, and Janetta.
