James Schelling Obituary

The Rev. James B. Schelling was born in Racine, WI, October 11, 1934. He is the son of the late Jerome J. and Edna, nee Brandt, Schelling. On June 22, 1957, he married Sharon Kaye of Racine, WI. God has blessed them with three sons, James Schelling, Jr., John Schelling and Peter (Jacquelyn, nee Thies) Schelling; grandfather of David, Taylor, Brett, Adam, Amanda, Jessica and Luke; he is the brother of Betty Williams and Jerome J. Schelling and uncle to many. He attended Trinity Lutheran School in Racine, Racine Lutheran High School and Concordia College, Fort Wayne, IN, graduating in 1954. In 1959, Rev. Schelling graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Jim's Vicarage was spent at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Des Plaines, IL. Upon graduation God called him to First English Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD, where he was ordained on August 2, 1959. In 1964, God called Pastor Schelling to serve at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Franklin Park, IL. Ten years later he also accepted the call to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in River Grove, IL. In addition to his duties with both congregations, Jim has served as a Circuit Counselor in the Northern Illinois District. Rev. Schelling received the call from St. John Lutheran Church in Roselle, IL, and was installed on October 11, 1981, where he served until the fall of 1997. Visitation Thursday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church, 1800 S. Roselle Road (at Irving Park Road), Schaumburg, IL. Funeral Friday, 10 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church.
