Offering my condolences and prayers to Rory and the Smith Repicky families. I first met Dr. Smith in 1992 when I returned to SRALAB, formerly RIC, as a new nurse and she was a new attending. The pediatric nurses talked about how smart Dr. Smith was and that she was a rising star. How right those nurses were in their judgment. Last time I saw Joanne, I was planning to retire. She walked up to me and gently put her arm around me. I will never forget her kindness at that moment. Thank you Joanne, for your innovation and tenacity in rehabilitation, it was a blessing to know you.

Joanne and I were medical students on our first PM&R rotation at RIC with Jim Sliwa. We had a great time - both inspired to pursue the crazy career of physiatry. She really kept me on my toes! She was a bright star! My deepest sympathies go to her family.
