Chapman, John Sheffield
John Sheffield Chapman, age 96, of Evanston, formerly of Wilmette, beloved husband of the Jane (nee Fisher) and the late Rosemary Daniels Chapman; loving father of Jill (Harvey) Eastman, Jack (Karen Barrie), Joan (Bryce) Jones, Janet Chapman (Jerry Greenberg) and Jerry (Louella); dear grandfather of Jenny, Tricia, Ward, Matthew, SJ, Carolyn, Greg, Bryce, III, Damon, Martin and the late Jesse; great-grandfather of Holden, Vance and Meredith. John embraced life fully, was an example of unconditional love, and took delight in lifelong learning. Visitation Friday, January 8, 2010, 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with special remembrances from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie. Funeral Mass Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 9th St. and Linden Ave., Wilmette. Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd, Glencoe, IL 60022 or Saint Thomas of Canterbury, 4827 N. Kenmore Ave., Chicago, IL 60640. We met on the tennis court when playing "doubles". Our occasional games were delightful, and we managed to hold our own. Off the court he was outgoing and cordial as always. Our times together were memorable, in large part due to John's inherent optimism and sunny disposition. He will be missed.
