When my family moved to 107th and Sangamon I was 5 years old. As we were moving things into the house,
John who lived across the yard came over and introduced himself. John was a year older than me. He asked if I wanted to play. Since that moment we were best of friends. When I went to the wake for his brother Jim, John came out and hugged me. He was suffering at that time from his disease. We both hugged each other and cried for the loss of a good friend in Jim and a brother to John. That was the last time I saw John and the memory of that special moment remains strong.

Growing up John and his brother Jim were my best friends. When we first moved in on Sangamon St. John came up and said "my name is John and I live over there, do you want to play". I was 5 and John was 6 then. I still think about all the good times we had together and miss my friend very much.

John was one of my best friends as we grew up together. The world has lost a very special person. Pat and I both miss you. Our hearts and prayers go to the family, especially John's Dad who has lost so much so recently.

Words can never express the sympathy I feel for John's family in their loss, nor the depth of my pleasure in being one of Johnny's long time friends.
