Lorelei (Lorri) new Simon
September 3, 2024
Being a "Boomer", John, Steve & I initially met in our overflow Mary Lion Freshman class of Steinmetz. Our knowing one another was unavoidable. My last name was Simon, so until we chose our individual pathways we were seated in front of one another. Were we friends? Not exactly. John was quiet & possibly removed. I was neither in his crowd, nor readily welcomed. When our Steinmetz 50th reunion was in its planning stage, I inquired if the Siomos twins would be attending. I'd hoped to laugh & share with them how awkward those HS days were. It was then I found both John & Steve had passed. There would be no laughs or sharing. I did however hear of John's drumming ability & accomplishments. Those days were so long ago, yet there remain indelible memories.

I truely started playing the drumset serious after attending my first concert, Peter Frampton "Comes Alive" at Civic Arena Pittsburgh PA back in 1978ish. I was amazed at John's groove and pocket. The way John played the song Doobie Wah put me in a trance. Outstanding! Thank you John for bringen the Drums in life. You are truely missed by many. Condolence to the Family.

Offering condolences and respect ! Certainly one of the best drummers out of the 70´s. I´ve listened and practiced certain songs he´s done over and over and I just can not play like him ! That´s natural talent.
I´m an RN so when I saw he was also an EMT it speaks to his compassion for others. May he rest in peace. He is surely missed by many !

John was a close musical brother and soulmate of mine during my formative daze in the music business. John and I met when we were with Bob Crewe's Record label in 1967-68. I was playing with a group called the Glitterhouse while John was in the label's top act, "Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels". When I helped Mitch Ryder find a new guitar player named Doug Rodriguez from my home town, Great Neck, John and I became friends.
When John and Doug left Mitch Ryder and played with Buzzy Linhart and the Voices of East Harlem, I also played gigs and recording sessions with both acts. John played on my first solo album and then joined my band, "Moogy and the Rhythm Kings".
He joined me in playing on many of Todd Rundgren's records including his biggest hit, "Hello, It's Me" and Todd most innovative album, "A Wizard, A True Star". John then joined Peter Frampton's band and recorded the biggest selling album of all time up to that point (1975)called "Frampton Comes Alive". John recorded many albums with Frampton, and also recorded and gigged with Carly Simon, Harry Belafonte, Terry Reid, Tommy Bolin and many others. He was simply the greatest drummer I ever worked with. He was the king of rock and funk and a humble human being. He will be sorely missed. His death is a tragedy. He was a kind spirit with a good soul.

Johnny, I remember as a great drummer and musician, a kind and tolerant man, and a gentle soul. I was married to Buzzy Linhart during the days of his recordings with Buzzy.
My deepest condolences to all of Johnny's family and friends. I know he will be truly missed but, he will live on with his music and in the hearts of the people who loved him.
Sincerely,
Jeannie

To the Siomos family, my most sincere condolences. I met John when he was drumming with Peter Frampton. Doug Rodrigues, his friend and musical soulmate, was constanly talking about him and his playing. I still have a great tape Doug made me of him and John playing together. Anyway, I knew John only briefly, but remember him as a great person, and wonderful musician. He is missed.

Johnny and Stevie, as my older first cousins, were inspirational figures in my early life. I recall listening to Johnny "jam" with his buddies in the basement of his house on the NW side of Chicago, while he was still attending Steinmetz High. As we all know, he had a wonderful gift in playing the drums. He was also a wonderful person. He will be deeply missed by all of his relatives and friends. My sincerist condolences to Uncle Nick. I met John as a teen in the west side Chicagoland neighborhood we grew up in .
we bonded immediately founding a lifetime
friendship that grew stronger with each passing year . John became well known as
a brilliant musician and that he was .
I knew him as a man of absolute honesty .
A man who was openly compassionate
and completely unselfish . He had his quiet
serious side but right behind it lay a sharp
satirical wit whose observations brought
laughter to whomever heard it's voice .
My profound sympathy goes out to all memebers of his family and the friends who were touched by his gentle manner
and heartfelt sincerity . He is very much alive in our finest memories .
Play on Johnny - see you in the starlight .

I met and played with John in my first real pro gig with Mitch Ryder out of NYC in 1967. I was 17 and man were my eyes opened. John and I played together in many other bands and recordings and traveled the world in the years since Mitch. I miss him so much, not only the man, but the atomic clock timing the cat had. I had the joy to meet Johns brother and family in their home in Chicago and will never forget the culture and experiences learned there. God speed my drum hero and friend...Doug.
