Joseph Godfrey

Joseph Charles Godfrey III, (Joe) of Healdsburg, CA, passed away on Thursday, May 26, at the EmPres Post Acute Nursing Home in Petaluma. He was born on December 25, 1938, in Chicago, Ill, to Joseph Godfrey Jr. and Agnes (Sally) Kavanagh Godfrey, both deceased. He was also predeceased by his sister, Sally Godfrey Arpe (James). Joe graduated from Loyola Academy in Chicago and attended John Carroll University in Cleveland for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne Miller Godfrey, their three children, Joseph IV, Patrick (Ann) and Laura Ann, and two granddaughters, Alyssa and Jet Fianna Godfrey. Joe worked in the insurance industry throughout his career, relocating his family from Chicago to Northern California in 1973. After several years with Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies, he joined the Employee Insurance Division of the Human Resources Department at the City and County of San Francisco and retired in 2002. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at St. John's Church in Healdsburg at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, followed by interment of his ashes at Oak Mound Cemetery.
