Joe or "Mr. Lantoff" as I always called him when growing up in our neighborhood was a very kind and thoughtful man. He always made a point to say hello when the kids of the neighborhood would play baseball out at the corner next to his house. I also remember Joe stopping down to our house on occasion during the summer to have a drink with my Dad; they'd be talking sometimes for hours on the front stoop. I always enjoyed listening to Joe; there was something about the gentle cadence of his voice that was very calming :) Joe had a generous spirit. I reached out to him last summer for the first time in at least 20 years to ask that he come to my father's 75th birthday party and there was absolutely no hesitation when he answered my call and said of course we'll be there. I truly enjoyed the few hours I spent with Joe and Anne at the party last year, there were so many memories to share. My deepest condolences to Anne and the Lantoff family; Joe will be missed.
