Joseph Vavra Obituary

Joseph Vavra, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Betty Jane Vavra. Beloved father of Joseph L. (Yvonne) Vavra, and Corrine M. (Angelo) Pazzali; two stepdaughters, Ellie (Don) Anderson, and Denise (Steve) Thompson. Cherished grandfather of Andrew (Tabitha) Pazzali, Jennifer (Daniel Schahczinski) Pazzali, Jessica (Frank) Campagna, Joseph R. (Connie) Vavra, Scott (Valerie) Johnson, Paula and Evan Thompson, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceeded in death by his adoring wife of 38 years, Shirley L. Vavra, and his parents, Alois and Barbora Vavra, brother Frank Vavra, and sister Marie Werner. Joseph was a proud Navy Seabee Veteran serving in World War II, and later a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant serving in the Korean conflict. After serving in the Army, he opened Werner's Hardware in LaGrange Park, IL with his brother-in-laws. Retired to Port Charlotte, FL where he enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling. Internment with Full Military Honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
