Joyce Davis Holson was born November 28, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the fourth of five children to Frederick Davis and Anna Ferguson and grew up on Chicago's south side with her three brothers and sister. She attended South Shore High School and The University of Illinois where she was both a beauty queen and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Her Theta sisters were dear to her. In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard S. Holson Jr. at South Shore Country Club and embarked on a sixty two year journey of being a devoted, loving wife and mother to four children- Hillary, Rick, Jim and Peter. Joyce had many cherished friendships both in Lake Forest, Illinois where she raised her family and in Sea Island, Georgia where she and "Dick" enjoyed a second home for a number of years. She took up the game of golf as time allowed, playing at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest and Ocean Forest in Sea Island. Joyce was involved in a number of charities- her favorite being The Service Club of Chicago. The many acquaintances of the ladies of The Service Club were very meaningful to her. While she had a very full life, she was first and foremost a fiercely loyal wife, wonderful mother and dear friend to many. Joyce enjoyed loving relationships with daughter-in-laws Brenda, Florence and Sherry and favorite son- in-law Antonio. In her later years she derived her greatest joy from her four grandchildren- Rush, Taylor, Hayley and Hunter. As the wife of the President and Chairman of Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company she was quite natural in the role of the consummate corporate wife and while that provided her an unusually nice lifestyle, the kindness she showed people from all walks of life was never lost. She was a beautiful woman with a genuinely good heart. Joyce had a great spirit, was comfortable laughing at herself and dressed up every room she entered. She touched many lives in a uniquely positive way and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of her grace. Joyce passed away in the early hours of October 14, 2021. Services are private no visitation. Should you be so inclined, a small contribution to The Service Club of Chicago would bring her a big smile. 233 E. Erie St. Suite 405, Chicago, IL 60611.
