I just want to express my respect for your family. I just learned of her passing Marlee from your recent interview with Colbert. I live out of town now but I worked with your mom and came to know her and love her and I respect what a beautiful and remarkable mother she is....
Love to you all.

Late yesterday I learned that Libby Matlin passed away. The news saddened me, and I began reflecting on my memories of Libby and the Matlin family. My parents became good friends with Libby and Donny, and my brother, sister and I with Eric, Marc and Marlee. Through my pre-teen and early teenage years I remember being a frequent fixture at the Matlin's house, enjoying their company and creating countless ways to enjoy the hours (no cellphones or other distractions). I particularly remember Libby as one of the "inner circle" mothers who our neighborhood families entrusted with their kids. There really was an "it takes a Village ..." cooperative amongst the Morton Grove car dealers. One memory still vivid in my mind was the wooden console record player and their collection of records that included many Broadway show and movie soundracks. I'm pretty sure that it was Libby's interest, and became her influence. One record, "The Roar of the Greasepaint, the Smell of the Crowd" featuring Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusie (sp?) stuck with me through college, when I chose one of the songs for my Voice class performance. Libby truly created a creative, performing atmosphere in her household, evidenced by Marlee's choice of career in the performing arts, and Eric's as an attorney. With Libby, I always knew what was permitted and what was not -- she was clear and direct when it came to expectations. That quality earned my respect. So though I am saddened at the news, I'd rather think back to the happy times spent with Libby and the entire Matlin family. Libby was a unique lady, and I'm sure one that will be truly missed by many. With fond memories, Gary Vicari
