Lionel Howard Goldblatt

We are sad to announce the passing of Lionel Howard Goldblatt who passed away November 28, 2022 at the age of 93. Loving father to Vicki Goldblatt Kane, proud grandfather to Hayley (Ryan McCollum) and Zoe Kane, former husband and friend of Patricia Garretson, beloved husband of the late Sharon Kuiper, cherished brother of the late Renee, Cherie and Mavis. Lionel was generous, humble and kind. Lionel was President and CEO of the historic Goldblatt's Department stores founded by his father Nathan Goldblatt. He treated every employee with respect and kindness, and was beloved by his employees and vendors. Lionel served proudly in the Air Force during the Korean War. He traveled the world and shared his experiences with friends and family. He loved birds and nature. Lionel was a tireless volunteer and was dedicated to giving back to his community at the Nathan Goldblatt Society for Cancer Research, Northwestern Hospitals, the Botanic Garden (where he spent hours and hours at the trains and working with children), the Holocaust Museum, the Evanston Animal Shelter, and the North Shore Senior Center. Lionel was generous, humble and kind, and will be missed by his family, friends and community. There will be a ceremony to spread Lionel's ashes. Date to follow.
