M. Maxson Obituary
Finley was born on August 9, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio, and spent his formative years in Columbus, Ohio, graduating from Upper Arlington High School. He was a political science major at Duke University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1956. Finley then served in the Navy, and was an officer on the Intrepid aircraft carrier. After the Navy, Finley attended Harvard Law School, Class of 1962. He then moved to Chicago and practiced corporate law at Winston & Strawn LLP for 46 years, his entire legal career. In Chicago, Finley met Barbara Ann Loughlin, the love of his life. They moved to Northfield, Illinois in 1970, where he lived for 45 years before moving to Northbrook, Illinois near the end of his life.
Finley was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen; and by his loving wife, Barbara, on September 7, 2002. Finley is survived by his four children: son Finley Peter; daughter Catherine, son-in-law Gregory Lewis, and their daughters Lucinda and Greta; daughter Anne, son-in-law Craig Pulford, and their daughter Beatrice; and son John.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in honor of M. Finley Maxson be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (curealz.org/giving/donate/) and/or Center for Independent Futures, an organization that serves Finley's son John (independentfutures.com). The family is having a private ceremony.

Really enjoyed watching Finley with his various Irish Setters thru the years. When Finley moved from Dickens he left a void. My sympathies to his family.

I just learned of Finley's passing and I am deeply saddened. He was a wonderful mentor and a fantastic lawyer. We often walked from the train station together and I truly enjoyed our conversatons. My heartfelt sympathies to his family on the passing of one of the firm's most outstanding lawyers.
