In my last few years of teaching at Holmes Jr. High I was lucky enough to have Marilyn as my Senior Volunteer. She worked so hard to help get me organized.....which was surely not an easy job. On the weeks of concerts she would come in extra to be sure everything was ready and to ease my stress. She single handedly organized and categorized my 27 year stash of music so that when my successor came in all the files would be in perfect order, and that there would be a data base of music so the teachers throughout the district choirs could share titles. What a gem!!
Not only did she help during the day, when she could she would come back at nights for concerts and be sitting there cheering on the students and me. She even helped after concerts. She really was my right hand in my final years at Holmes.
As was mentioned in another post, she would always enter the room smiling and telling the kids how great they sounded. She really enjoyed the kids at Holmes, and in turn, they liked her too.
I have talked to the current director, and let her know that I am donating a song to the 7th and 8th grade choir at Holmes Jr. High that will be sung in her honor at an end of the year event. She was such a big part of the Choir program at Holmes for the past few years, I wanted to be sure there would be a permanent song in the files that was purely in her honor. By the students performing a song to this special lady that was a collaborative effort of Ms. Smith and myself, the Holmes Choir will have Marilyn as part of our hearts forever. What a fitting tribute to her.
I can never thank her enough for all she did for me. She was a very special lady. My deepest condolences go out to all of you.
With sympathy,
Jayne Wilkins-Scott

Mr. Kellerman, Mike and Jacqui. I am very sorry for your loss. I hadn't seen your mom for a long time but I had time to visit with her at Mr. Martinski's wake. She was always very nice to everybody. I'm not feeling good otherwise I would be there with the old gang that will show up today. Stay strong.

The community at Holmes has suffered a great loss. On behalf of the Fine Arts Department staff and students, we extend our condolences to Marilyn's husband and family during this time.
Marilyn's positivity and encouragement motivated the students to do their best. Her smiling face and kind words were always a highlight during our classes and rehearsals. When remembering Marilyn, the students used the words "warm" and "caring." The students will miss seeing her walk through the door and greeting her with their friendly, "Hello, Mrs. K!"
In honor of Marilyn's work and legacy of kindness, Holmes Junior High will dedicate their Finale piece of the 2015 Fine Arts Festival to her memory. The text of the piece, "The Beginning of Love," is inspired by the words of Mother Teresa:
"Let us always meet each other with a smile, for a smile is the beginning of love."
Marilyn always started each day with a smile. Her memory will continue to inspire us to do the same.

I have fond memories of Marilyn from my childhood. She was a lovely woman and surrogate mom to many of us. Love and light to Jacqui, Mike and Don.

Life without my best friend will never be the same. She will be sorely missed by her large extended family whom she loved with all her heart and they loved her in return. If I would use one word to describe Marilyn it would be commitment. Her word was her bond no matter what hardship she had to endure she would be there, doing, helping, supporting. She helped me through a tragic time in my life for which I've been forever grateful. God blessed me with her friendship.

To all of Marilyn's family, especially her husband, Don,
Words are so inadequate at a time like this, but we want you to know that we at Holmes Junior High are so saddened by the sudden passing of such a sweet and kind woman. The kids at school really loved her and are also very saddened by her passing. The music teachers she worked with, Jayne and Katie, valued her greatly - not just as a classroom volunteer - but as a treasured friend. The office staff is also feeling the pain of this loss and will very much miss talking to her and seeing her smiling face. She was a greatly appreciated addition to our music classes, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
